Refractory anaemia terminating in a combined lymphoproliferative and myeloproliferative disorder.

چکیده
We report a case of non-sideroblastic refractory anaemia which evolved to a double lymphomyeloproliferative disorder. At presentation, bone marrow appearances and peripheral blood pancytopenia without myelomonocytosis were consistent with a diagnosis of non-sideroblastic refractory anaemia. Subsequently, the patient developed pronounced myelomonocytosis and lymphocytosis with prolymphocytes. Light and transmission electron microscopy as well as surface marker studies were compatible with a diagnosis of prolymphocytic transformation of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia/prolymphocytic leukaemia associated with myelomonocytic leukaemia. The pathogenesis of such double lympho-myeloproliferative disorders is discussed in the light of the evidence for common lymphoid and myeloid progenitor cells and some recent advances in the immunology of the myelodysplastic syndromes.

AIM The assessment of the value of the antibody QBEND10, which is directed against the haemopoietic stem cell related antigen CD34, in the immunohistochemical diagnosis of myelodysplastic syndrome in routinely processed bone marrow biopsy specimens. متن کاملSubcutaneous erythropoietin for treatment of refractory anemia in hematologic disorders. Results of a phase I/II clinical trial.
We have used recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEPO) in a phase I/II clinical trial to evaluate its ability to reverse refractory anemia in hematologic disorders. rHuEPO was administered subcutaneously 5 days per week at escalating doses (50 to 150 U/kg per day). The aim of treatment was a hemoglobin (Hb) level greater than or equal to 10 g/dL without blood transfusion. Of 25 patients treated...
متن کاملRefractory anaemia with ringed sideroblasts associated with marked thrombocytosis (RARS-T) with superimposed 5q-syndrome.
Refractory anaemia with ringed sideroblasts associated with marked thrombocytosis (RARS-T) is a rare entity belonging to myeloproliferative/myelodysplastic syndromes. Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) with isolated del(5q) is a category of MDS characterized by better prognosis and specific morphology. Herein we describe a 69-year-old male with anaemia and thrombocytosis presenting with coexisting ...

Forty two patients who were seen and satisfied the French-American-British (FAB) diagnostic criteria for myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) over a 6-year period at the University of Zimbabwe's Department of Haematology, Harare, are presented. Their overall ages ranged from 29 to 75 years with a mean +/- SD of 57.8 +/- 11.2 years. Males outnumbered females with a male to female ratio of 1.2:1. Refr...
متن کاملMyelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) in Zimbabweans--preliminary observations.
Twenty three Zimbabwean African patients who satisfied the French-American-British(FAB) diagnostic criteria for the myelodysplastic syndromes(MDS) at Godfrey Huggins School of Medicine, University of Zimbabwe, between July 1985 and June 1987 are presented. The disorders appear not to behave differently from those reported in Caucasian populations with regard to clinical and haematological featu...
